Personal Profile - Haydn Lightfoot

haydn, rufty tufty Our first event with Cranmog was the Mog event at Cheltenham in 2001, although most people’s first memories of us in the club probably occurred as a result of Sarah being so hungover after the Birthday Party in the following January that she was unable to go into work until the Wednesday !

We had purchased our Morgan 4/4 in July 2000, just 2 weeks after having our first drive of one. One of our Border Terriers, Bo, had a litter of puppies that my Mum had helped to look after. Knowing that my Mum had always liked Morgans, I arranged by way of thank you to hire a Morgan 4/4, and then take my Mum for a drive and a posh lunch at The Compleat Angler in Marlow, all of which she thoroughly enjoyed.

As a treat for Sarah and myself, I had also decided to keep the car for a weekend away at Bibury Court Hotel in The Cotswolds. Given that Bo had earned the money for this little trip, both she and our other Border Terrier, Twiglet, joined us and we managed to squeeze them in behind the seats so that they could look out. Little did they realise how often they would be doing this in the future !

Haydn, rufty tufty We all thoroughly enjoyed our first Morgan experience both pottering about little country tracks and blasting down sweeping A & B roads. However, we were amazed how many people came and chatted to us about the car, and of those how many regretted not buying a Morgan themselves while they had the chance… This combined with how sad we were to take the car back to Wykehams, made up our minds to start looking for a suitable 2nd hand Morgan and investigate how might go about re-mortgaging our house !

Within a week we had located and test driven our current Lancia Blue 4/4 with Red Leather trim (S350 UCF), and within 2 weeks negotiated a deal and collected the car. We have since driven our car many thousands of happy miles around the UK and Europe on various trips with Cranmog and made so many new friends both within the club and at other Morgan centres enriching our lives in a way we had never thought possible.

As Cranmog members, Sarah and I can be found organising of the annual Cheese & Wine party each November, or challenging for (and most recently losing) “The last in the bar” award at the annual Reydon weekend. Sarah has also (with the able assistance of Vanessa Barham), perfected her Birthday Party raffle ticket selling technique, although this might be to the detriment of the knees of a number of the gentlemen members of Cranmog !

We have enjoyed many happy times with Cranmog and look forward to many more in the future.

What Haydn hasn't mention of course that he was elected unanimously to the giddy heights of CranMog Chairman at the 2007 AGM and relelected in January 2008. CranMog Officer posts last for 12 months at a time, so I expect we will re-elect him each year because he is doing an excellent job. It was of course a daunting task taking over from Philip Bell, but Haydn was nurtured along last year as Vice Chairman, so he knew what he was letting himself in for!!and he still went and did it. Good luck to you sir.
